The Essentials

How Does Infrared Sauna Work?

Infrared sauna uses near, mid, and far infrared waves that penetrate and heat your body directly, instead of heating the air around you like a traditional sauna. This lets you reach a higher internal temperature at a more comfortable air temperature, so you get deeper benefits in less time. Our True Wave full-spectrum sauna reaches up to 75°C (167°F), with about 15% of the output warming the air and the rest absorbed directly by your body.

Each session is 40 minutes in your own private room, including time to shower before and after. We recommend 20 to 30 unbroken minutes inside, the window research links to the most benefit. If you want to add cold exposure to your routine, you can also try our hot-cold therapy room.

The Benefits

What Does Infrared Sauna Do?

A regular infrared sauna practice supports your body in ways that reach well beyond a good sweat. Here is what Vancouverites use it for.

Infrared sauna boosts immunity

Does infrared sauna boost your immune system?

Regular sessions raise your core temperature and support white blood cell activity, helping your body defend itself. It is a popular way for Vancouverites to stay resilient through the long, damp rainy season.

Infrared sauna for brain health

Is infrared sauna good for brain health?

Regular heat exposure is linked to improved blood flow to the brain and the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Many guests use their session to de-stress, sharpen focus, and support long-term cognitive health.

Infrared sauna burns calories

Does infrared sauna burn calories?

You do burn calories from the cardiovascular work your body does to cool itself in the heat. Infrared sauna works best alongside a healthy diet and fitness routine, not as a replacement for them.

Infrared sauna for cardiac endurance

Does infrared sauna improve cardiovascular health?

Sitting in the heat raises your heart rate and circulation in a way that mimics light cardio, sometimes called a passive workout. Over time, regular sessions can support cardiac endurance and healthy blood flow.

Infrared sauna for skin health

Is infrared sauna good for your skin?

The deep sweat from a full-spectrum session helps clear pores and supports circulation to the skin. With consistent use, many guests notice clearer, healthier-looking skin.

Private infrared sauna experience

Do I get my own private sauna room?

Yes. Every infrared sauna session at Float House is completely private. You get your own room and your own sauna, with no shared benches and no crowds, just a calm space to sweat at your own pace.

FAQ

Vancouver Infrared Sauna FAQs

What is infrared sauna?

Infrared sauna uses near, mid, and far infrared waves that absorb deep into your body to heat you directly. You get big detox and recovery benefits in a short, comfortable session, which is why people describe it as doing cardio without the cardio.

How long are infrared sauna sessions?

Our infrared sauna appointments are 40 minutes long, including time to shower before and after your session. We recommend 20 to 30 unbroken minutes inside the sauna for the most benefit.

How hot does the infrared sauna get?

Our sauna reaches up to 75 degrees Celsius (167 degrees Fahrenheit). With our True Wave full-spectrum technology, about 15% of the output warms the air while the rest is absorbed directly by your body for greater benefit.

What is the difference between infrared and a traditional sauna?

A traditional sauna heats the air first, which requires much higher, less tolerable temperatures. Infrared technology skips that step and heats your body directly, so you can stay in longer and reach a higher internal temperature with less discomfort.

Why are sessions only 40 minutes?

Our infrared sauna is one of the most powerful in the country, so even experienced users find 15 to 20 minutes plenty. You have the room for 40 minutes, and we recommend 20 to 30 unbroken minutes, the window research links to the most benefit. Less time gives fewer benefits, and more brings diminishing returns.

Can I bring a guest to the infrared sauna?

Yes. The person who made the booking can bring up to 2 guests into the private sauna for an extra $25 per person.

Is infrared sauna safe?

Yes. Your body actually emits infrared itself. Our equipment emits zero EMF (electromagnetic fields) and is VOC (volatile organic compound) free.

What should I bring and wear?

Bring a shower towel and a water bottle. We provide a bench and sweat towel, a robe, a hair dryer, and organic body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Since your room is private, most people do their session without any clothing.

Is the infrared sauna clean?

Yes. The entire sauna is thoroughly sanitized with non-toxic cleaning agents before and after each use, and the intense infrared waves kill 99% of bacteria.
